Context : 

This map was made during my 1st year at Gamesup. It was a workshop made by Steven Cruz the goal was to create a level of Advance Wars with themes given by him.

My workflow 

The first thing I had to do on this exercise was to choose from a list of themes given by my teacher to create the level. These themes gave us instructions to respect for the creation of our map, the themes I chose was "Naval battle" and "A enemie stronger than you"

Even if I was a player of tactical game before this exercice and a fan of the Advance Wars franchise I spend few hours playing and testing the game in order to refresh my memory and take some notes on Advance Wars metrics.

After finishing my test on the game, I spend some time to find historical references for my level. My references were : the D-Day, Pacific war and the Narvik battle.

After collecting enough resources I started to create my level in the game editor with the game resources and assets.

After the creation of my map, i spend a lot of time doing playtest in order to polish the experience of my level. Tests were a good opportunity to iterate my level and create a better map. I also use some of my classmates as testers in order to have a fresh point of view on my work and new perspectives.

The last thing I have made on this project was a level design document to explain my work on this map and my design intentions.
